Snow day in Mississippi by Blake McCollum

Just in case you missed it..... it snowed almost 9 inches this past week..... IN MISSISSIPPI!?!?! It feels just as weird to type that as it does to read that. For some of you that don't venture much to the south, Mississippi isn't known for it's gnarly powder and ski slopes. So to say the least this was a crazy change of scenery and climate for a few days.

The photographer in me had to ignore every single person in Mississippi saying "STAY OFF THE ROADS" and get out and take a few photos of the snow. It's beautiful no doubt, but no fun to drive in. Lots of slipping, sliding, getting stuck, spinning, and a bit of drifting later Joyce Li and myself made it back to the studio safely, soaking wet but memory cards full of a beautiful day in Amory, Mississippi.  Joyce will be posting her own blog of some of her photos as well on her blog soon you can check it out HERE!

Also if you are a fellow Amorian and take a liking to some of these images, I will be selling prints at the Art and Music Festival in the Frisco park on March 28th! Come get you one!

To be a photographer I honestly hate being in front of the camera. I can count on one hand how many times I have willingly posed for photos. Joyce however has her ways and talked me into it. Made me feel like a proud teacher when she turned out this image.

Jessica and Ty | Engagement by Blake McCollum

And winner for the most photogenic couple goes to these two! Jessica and Ty were an absolute pleasure to work with. I have known Jessica now for quite some time - from her pageant days to her dad coaching football at my community college, our paths have crossed numerously. Currently, Jessica and Ty live in Jackson but traveled up to Columbus to spend the afternoon with me at the exquisite Rosedale Historic before taking a walk down at the "River Walk". These two are perfect for each other in every way! Dash (their four legged child) also took part in their engagement session and he even loved the camera... until he got bored with it and was more interested in smelling trees. So glad I was able to hang out with this great couple for the afternoon and make beautiful portraits. Really excited to be a part of their big day this coming May!

Jessica's friend (Caroline Taylor Jewelry) made this necklace for her. It has the roman numerals of their wedding date etched into it. Really really cool idea.

Bryce by Blake McCollum

Bryce's senior session was next level!!!! Rarely I find somebody just as laid back as I am and we had similar interests..... In example we chatted on professional things like Marvel movies (I had just watched a new X-men movie the night before) and the ins and outs of Monster energy drinks (.... he's literally a pro on the subject)
Bryce and myself decided to just totally wing it and cruise around town until we found settings that we both agreed upon between our professional conversations mentioned above and just try some new things. He was open to anything I had to throw at him in the photo world which makes my job as a photographer easier and so much more fun. Enjoyed spending the afternoon working on Bryce's senior photos.

Lee Edens Farms by Blake McCollum

Building a cattle calendar is something we can now put on our resume! Lee Edens Farms of Okolona, Mississippi does a yearly calendar to distribute to their clients and this year they asked us (myself and Joyce Li of Joyce Li Design) to photograph and design it for them! Being new to the cattle world after a few tours of the pastures, meeting and greeting a few thousand head of cattle, a cold afternoon on a mule, and a good shoe cleaning, we ended up with the final product that you see below. Be on the look out around the south for them.

Cody and Madison Carson... from day 1 by Blake McCollum

There is so much I could say about these two amazing people and their journey that I have been lucky enough to witness literally from day 1 of their engagement. I was there from the moment Cody proposed to his fiancé to the time he kissed his wife for the first time. Looking back on watching this chapter of their lives makes me feel really special that I was lucky enough to be a part of it.

Now their story

Cody planned his proposal as a surprise to his then girlfriend, Madison, at a private home where she was completely unknowing that 20+ members of both sides of the family were hiding in the backyard waiting.

For those that do not know, Cody and Madison both played soccer. And Cody coached on a collegiate level. So it was only fitting to finish out their session with a 1 on 1 soccer match. Madison won....
